PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new intellectual pitching machine capable of controlling the three of speed of a pitched ball, a type of pitch and a position within a target, and a breaking ball control method therefor. SOLUTION: The pitching machine P includes a ball insertion space 5 formed by three rollers 1-3, respective driving devices M1-M3 for separately controlling the rotation of the three rollers 1-3 for imparting an initial speed and the rotation to a ball 4 inserted into the ball insertion space 5 and a structure base 6 where the three rollers 1-3 and the driving devices M1, M2 and M3 are loaded, wherein direction control drive parts M4 and M5 for driving the structure base 6 so as to be swung vertically and horizontally at a prescribed angle are provided. Thus, by arranging the direction control drive parts M4 and M5 for vertically and horizontally driving the structure base 6 in addition to the driving devices M1-M3, the ball of a desired speed and a desired type of pitch is accurately pitched in a desired target range to a position in a batting zone or the target just by simple structure alteration.
