IMAGE READING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus whereby reading of an original is started at the same position of the original both in a monochromatic mode and a color mode. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus is provided with: a read section including an RGB line sensor for reading the original in the color mode and a monochromatic line sensor located apart from the color line sensor by a prescribed distance in the subscanning direction and for reading the original in the monochromatic mode; an ADF for changing a relative position between the original and the read section in the subscanning direction; an operation panel for designating the color mode or the monochromatic mode for the reading mode of the original; and a control means (S108, S109) that allows the ADF to change the relative position between the original and the read section in the subscanning direction so as to switch a time when a scanning period of the read section for reading the original is started in response to a designated read mode.
