<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle-mounted display device capable of preventing a back light degradation in a display and a battery degradation from occurring, by inhibiting unnecessary controls of dimming the display. <P>SOLUTION: A decision is made as to whether or not the state of car theft exists (step 101), and in the case the state of car theft exists, the control of dimming the display is inhibited (step 102). In the case where the state of car theft does not exist, the inhibition of the control of dimming the display is canceled (step 103). Then, a judgement is made as to whether or not the state of inhibiting the dimming control exists (step 104). In the case the state of inhibiting the dimming control does not exist, a judgement is made as to whether or not a lighting state exists (step 105). Then, in the case where the lighting state exists, the dimming control is carried out, thereby bringing a display state of the display to become a mid-evening image mode (step 106).
