<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive discharge lamp lighting device in which respective tube current can be controlled within a wide range and precisely by making the electric current flowing in the discharge lamp equalized without enlarging the size of a variable inductor. <P>SOLUTION: The standard discharge lamp 5a and the other discharge lamp 5b are included in this discharge lighting device 10, variable inductance elements 4A, 4B and tube current detecting parts 6a, 6b are connected to respective discharge lamps 5a, 5b, tube current control circuits 7a, 7b are connected to the variable inductance elements 4A, 4B, and the output signal 9 from the tube current detecting part 6a of the standard discharge lamp 5a are connected together with the output signal from that tube current detecting part 6b to the tube current control circuit 7b of the other discharge lamp 5b, and the tube current of the discharge lamps 5a, 5b are controlled by making this output signal 9 as the standard.
