PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double mechanical seal for effectively a sealing fluid containing nano particles. SOLUTION: A first mechanical seal 1 has a non-rotatable driven seal ring 10 and a rotatable seal ring 19 for sealing a machine inside Y and a circulating liquid 3 with a seal face 11. The driven seal ring 10 has a first tapered face 12 and a second tapered face 13 in the circumferential direction to form the narrow seal face 11, and has a third tapered face 14 on the rear end face of a large diameter portion 15 in the opposite direction with respect to the fist tapered face 12. The radial width t of the seal face 11 is 0.3-1% of the balance diameter D of the driven seal ring 10. The driven seal ring 10 is an integrated ring of SiC or WC, which is not joined to the other member such as a back metal.
