<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can maintain the contents of more confidential printed matter than ever before. <P>SOLUTION: When a medium type is stored in printing data, a Japanese hyphenation processing part 15 checks whether or not font identification information for being stored in a storage part 13 is stored in the printing data. In either the case where the medium type for being stored in the storage part 13 is stored in the printing data or the case where the medium type for being stored in the storage part 13 is not stored in the printing data and the font identification information for being stored in the storage part 13 is stored in the printing data, the Japanese hyphenation processing part 15 reads a user's password from the printing data etc., and checks whether or not the read password corresponds to a password stored in the storage part 13.
