PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exchange by which an extension telephone set is used at home and on the street in an environment being the same as that of an office, etc., and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: Connection is established between an external line and an extension line or between the extension lines so as to form a call line in the exchange 1. In the exchange 1, the extension telephone set connected to the extension line is defined as a main extension telephone set and an IP telephone set 4a connected to the external line or the extension line via an IP network 7 is defined as a sub-extension telephone set. The exchange includes a storage part 1g where an extension port number assigned to a main extension telephone number and the identification information of the sub-extension telephone set are related so as to be stored as extension management information; and a control part 1h for controlling the sub-extension telephone set as the extension telephone set which is assigned to the extension port number in response to the extension management information.
