Apparatus for the direct application of a liquid or pasty medium on a continuously moving material web

A paper scraper blade assembly applies a coating of e.g. pigment to the surface of a moving web (2) as it moves around a revolving drum. The web feeds to the drum (3) via a roller (8) and joins the drum surface (3a) at a tangent in a wedge-shaped gusset zone (Z(E) with a full-width screen (6). The combined screen and scraper blade (6) is thin, of constant thickness and has coating of e.g. of PTFE. The screen is fitted e.g. to a coating station receiving a 10 m + wide paper web.
