PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source position adjustment mechanism used for a projection type display device, whereby nonuniform luminance can be corrected without decreasing a quantity of light and worsening nonuniform color, and to provide the projection type display device. SOLUTION: The light source position adjustment mechanism is used for the projection type display device which guides light from a light source to an illuminating optical system and projects the light from the illuminating optical system by a projection optical system. The light source position adjustment mechanism includes: a light source hold member 12 for holding the light source; an illuminating optical system hold member for holding the illuminating optical system; and a connecting member 13 for connecting the light source hold member to the illuminating optical system hold member. Using a first positioning part 12a disposed on the light source hold member and a second positioning part 13a disposed on the connecting member, the position of the light source can be two-dimensionally adjusted to the illuminating optical system.
