PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic shock absorber of both rod type capable of shortening mounting length and moving a rod smoothly. SOLUTION: This hydraulic shock absorber 1 of both rod type provided with a cylinder 2, a rod 4 inserted into the cylinder 2 movably, and a spherical body 5 constituting a ball joint J1 provided continuously on a cylinder 2 side, a hollow part 9 in which the rod 4 is movably inserted into the spherical body 5 is provided and sealed to put even a ball joint part into a scope of travel of the rod 4, dispense with a dust seal, shorten mounting length of the hydraulic shock absorber by far, and move the rod 4 smoothly.
