<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of deterioration in productivity due to execution of a cleaning cycle action when an image forming process is carried out by supplying paper from a manual feeding paper supply part without specifying paper size. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus is provided with a paper size discriminating part 16 for discriminating the paper size on the basis of paper width detected by a paper width detection part 14 and paper length detected by a paper length detection part 15, a region setting part 17 for setting an image forming region for formation of a toner image on an image carrier, a cleaning cycle execution part 18 for executing a cleaning cycle action repeatedly cleaning the surface of the image carrier by two or more rotations, a cleaning necessary or unnecessary deciding part 19 for comparing the paper size and the image forming region and deciding whether or not the cleaning cycle action is needed on the basis of the comparison results, and a main control part 13 for controlling whether or not the cleaning cycle action can be executed according to the decided results in the cleaning necessary or unnecessary decision part 19. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
