PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a walking aid replacing a conventional hard and heavy AFO (ankle-foot orthesis) covering a lower leg to the toe, with which walking aid the ankle dorsiflexion muscle is contracted by current stimulation from electrodes adhered on a proximal position of the lower leg to correct varus/foot-drop deformity by muscle contraction activity.
SOLUTION: This walking aid comprises a body including two flexible and adhesive electrodes each with a thickness wearable on a lower leg layer, a power source, a low-frequency pulse generating circuit, an inclination sensor, and a vibration sensor, and a lead wire connecting the body and the two electrodes. The walking aid works for contracting the ankle dorsiflexion muscle by electrical stimulation from the lower leg surface layer. When the vibration sensor does not act for a prescribed time or the lower leg axis is almost horizontally inclined, the output is automatically turned off.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
