The invention relates to the use of 3-mercapto-3-methyl-hexan-1-ol as malodor standard. The use of said standard allows determination of particularly effective perspiration odor-masking fragrant compositions. The invention also relates to a method for examining to what extent the perspiration odor is masked, to a method for producing perspiration odor-masking fragrant compositions and to body care products and air fresheners containing said compositions.
