<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire the image data of a desired region without causing the deterioration of the quality of an image when the images formed in both sides of an original is read without reversing the original. <P>SOLUTION: The image formed on the front surface of the original is read with a CCD image sensor 78 while conveying the original, and the image formed in the rear surface of the original is read by a CIS50. The image data of the front surface read with the CCD image sensor 78 is outputted as it is, after image processing is performed. The image data of the rear surface read by the CIS50 are stored once in a buffer memory 203, after image processing is performed. After the outputting of the image data of the front surface is finished, the image data are outputted. And, when the image data by the side of reading origination on the rear surface of the original are, for example, desired to be outputted, the buffer memory 203 is written by a fixed buffer control.
