Method and device for operating an open-end spinning machine

Operating an open-end rotor spinning unit (1) involves biasing and rotating a spinning rotor (3) by an airflow; monitoring electric quantities that develop during generator operation of a motor drive (18); generating a signal upon monitored quantity exceeding a threshold value which can only be attained when a cover element (8) is properly closed; and processing signal in a control unit (30) so as to cause cover element on a rotor housing to be locked in closed position. The method further involves connecting the drive to its energy supply to rotate the rotor. The motor drive is a DC motor. An independent claim is included for an open-end rotor spinning apparatus.
