Method of manufacturing profiles from thermoplastic material

A process for producing thermoplastic profiles made of eg PVC comprises plastifying plastic granulate or powder in an extruder and then pressing it through an extrusion tool (1) to form a profile with a predetermined cross section. Quality is ensured by automating the process and by taking melt measurements at the extruder and in the tool. A control parameter is calculated at at least two points in the flow direction, which is based on local melt pressure and flow speed in the extrusion tool nozzle (2). The arrangement used to carry out the process includes a measurement point immediately downstream of the extruder worm and upstream of an adapter.
