PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish a technique for producing lactic acid used as a raw material for biodegradable plastics from heavy metal-polluted plants having been incinerated, at a low cost, and for selectively removing the heavy metal eluted in a fermentation solution. SOLUTION: This method for producing the lactic acid from the heavy metal-polluted plants by lactic acid fermentation is characterized by comprising the first process for crushing the plants, the second process for subjecting the crushed plants obtained in the first process to lactic acid fermentation using a diastatic enzyme and a lactic acid bacterium, and the third process for removing the heavy metal from the lactic acid fermentation solution obtained in the second process.
