PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide surface-treated powder which can easily be produced, has a good anti-bacterial property, and gives an excellent sense of use, and to prepare a powder cosmetic containing the surface-treated powder. SOLUTION: The surface-treated powder is characterized by being powder whose surface is treated with an amphoteric surfactant represented by formula (1) (one or two of R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>are each methyl, and the others are each a 10 to 22C linear or branched hydrocarbon group or an amide bond-containing hydrocarbon group; one or two of R<SB>4</SB>, R<SB>5</SB>and R<SB>6</SB>are each methyl, and the others are each a 10 to 22C linear or branched hydrocarbon group or an amide bond-containing hydrocarbon group).
