PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect defective pixels in an imaging apparatus such as a digital still camera. SOLUTION: Luminance data of each pixel are cross-referenced with the arrangement of pixels and the luminance data of each pixel are cross-referenced with luminance data of pixels at upper/lower/left/right positions of pixels with respect to each pixel. In this case, the luminance data of a pixel is cross-referenced with an average of the luminance data at the upper/lower/left/right positions of pixels with respect to the pixel, and the presence/absence of a defective pixel is discriminated depending on the deviation. Then the image data of a pixel discriminated to be the defective pixel are corrected by the luminance data of the surrounding pixels (pixels at the upper/lower/left/right positions of pixels).
