PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fiber-reinforced composite material which is capable of thermoplastic molding, light in weight, high in strength, and excellent in dimensional precision, heat resistance, abrasion resistance, and impact resistance and a molding using the composite material obtained by the method. SOLUTION: Mixed threads of reinforcing fibers and thermoplastic resin fibers are heated continuously at the melting or softening temperature of the thermoplastic resin fibers and twisted together while being heated to produce a composite of the reinforcing fibers and the thermoplastic resin fibers. After that, the composite is cut in a length of 1-20 mm to produce the fiber-reinforced composite material. By the thermoplastic molding of the composite material, a molding excellent in dimensional precision, abrasion resistance, tracking resistance, fire retardancy, etc., is obtained.
