The escalator has a transport unit (2) for transporting persons and connected with a transport system (3) for carrying objects e.g. luggage in such a manner that the system synchronously moves to the transport unit. The system is arranged parallelly adjacent to the unit and moves together with the unit such that the persons can move in direct or hidden access to the respective objects, in transportation direction.
