The present invention provides a helicopter landing pad that can be rapidly deployed and recovered. The helicopter landing pad includes a plurality of interlocking panels 4 that can be assembled together to form a planar base 2. Each panel 4 has an aperture 8 for receiving one of a ground anchor and a lighting unit. The helicopter landing pad includes a ground anchor that can be inserted through the aperture in one of the panels to secure the panel to the underlying ground. Finally, the helicopter landing pad includes a lighting unit that can be inserted into the aperture in one of the panels. The panels may be square, rectangular, or hexagonal in shape, and made of plastics. The ground anchor may comprise a plurality of deployable securing wires, and the lighting unit may comprise green, amber and infrared light emitters (such as light emitting diodes), a power source, and a control circuit operated manually, remotely or in response to a light sensor. A plurality of lighting units may define a pattern. |
