1,059,299. Disc brakes. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. May 21, 1965 [May 23, 1964], No. 21608/65. Heading F2E. In a disc brake the friction linings on the two sides of the brake disc have different coefficients of friction. In the arrangement shown, the friction pad 8 between the brake disc 4 and the wheel 2, 3 has a higher coefficient of friction than the friction pad 9 on the other side of the brake disc. Although the pad 8 of higher coefficient of friction, under equal conditions, would wear more rapidly than the pad 9 of lower coefficient of friction, the friction pad 8 is better protected against extraneous dirt than the friction pad 9 and the actual wear of the two pads would be equalized. It is stated that brake squeal is prevented or reduced by this arrangement. |
