A web 16 is cut into sheets by a revolving cutter 24 co-operating with a fixed knife 26. The severed sheets are moved away from the cutter by high-speed conveyers 28, 30 and 36. Each conveyer comprises a plurality of spaced endless tapes. Suction means 42 are positioned beneath the upper runs of tapes 32 to pull the severed sheets away from the cutter. The suction means comprises a transverse pipe divided into separate chambers by semicircular shaped walls. Each chamber is connected individually to a source of suction via a valve 54 and a pipe 48. Thus one or more chambers may be cut off from the source of suction according to the width of the severed sheets. The pipes 48 include flexible sections to facilitate assembly and damper vibrations.
