PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic labeling method and apparatus capable of using a commercially available label sheet having labels arranged in a plurality of rows and columns. SOLUTION: The automatic labeling apparatus is provided with a label sheet supplying means 1 for intermittently transferring a label sheet S having labels m adhered in a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns, a label peeling-off means 2 for peeling off the labels m from a transferring end, a label suction means 3 for sucking a peeled-off label m1, and a label detecting sensor 4 for detecting the presence of the label m1 sucked by the label sucking means 3. The label m1 is sucked by the label sucking means 3 only when the presence of the label m1 is detected by the label detecting sensor 4. The label sucking means 3 peels off the label m1 having its transferring end peeled off one by one in sequence through motion of the label sheet supplying means 1 in the width direction of the label sheet and adheres it an object article T.
