PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abrasion resistant member having high abrasion resistance, and to provide a manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: The abrasion resistant member consists of a base metal and a hardened layer harder than the base metal formed thereon, wherein the hardened layer comprises 60 to 20 mass% of matrix made of an Fe-Cr-C-based alloy, and 40 to 80 mass% of hard metal particles with an average particle diameter D50 of 60 to 800μm, dispersed in the matrix of the alloy. Thus obtained abrasion-resistant member disperses a sufficient amount of the hard metal particles having such a size as to sufficiently develop the abrasion resistance in the hardened layer, and consequently provides high abrasion resistance.
