<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can smoothly make a printing plate on the printer, save man power in a plate-making process and a printing process, further decrease printing errors and obtain a print of good inking property from an initial stage of printing, and to provide its control method. <P>SOLUTION: The printer has a means (means A) for detecting that a printing plate material installed on a cylinder is developed by at least one selected from a reflection density meter and a color difference meter, and a control method for it is disclosed.
