The method involves detecting edges within a filtering block in which pixels of an image (1) are comprised during processing. The detected edges are then enhanced, and signals representing chromatic and/or luminance components of the pixels of the image are filtered. The detection and the enhancement of the edges and the filtering of the signals are performed using successive square processing blocks (2). - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for a system of processing an image.
