The present invention relates to a hierarchy model for modelling the security policy of a business. The model includes a number of segment nodes (61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68) which define the security policy that applies to a respective segment of the business. Principal, group and application nodes (P1, P2, P3, P4, G1, G2, G3, G4, A1, A2, A3, A4), are then used to define the security policy which applies to respective individuals, group of individuals and applications or objects within the business. A number of connections are then used to connect the nodes so that the connected nodes reflect the structure of the business.
