A cellular core(16) is place between two fiber layers(12,24). The core structure comprises open-ended cells(20) running towards at least one of the fiber layers. A cover(22) seals the open ends of the cells to prevent resin reaching the latter during impregnation of the fiber layers. An Independent claim is made for a fiber reinforced composite component produced by the process. The core has flat, parallel upper and lower surfaces and the cover layer covers the entire core surface facing the fiber layer. Forces in the composite are transferred by the cover into the rigid core. Material for the cover is either the same as or has similar properties to that of the core. Connection between a cover and core is by bonding to give vacuum tightness. Core cells are interconnected and form a pattern, e.g. a honeycomb. Cells may be open to either one or both fiber layers. Side faces of the cell structure are sealed or covered to prevent resin ingress during fiber impregnation.
