PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a supporting article for an image recording material having high whiteness and to provide an image recording material excellent in whiteness (particularly whiteness in a non-imaging part).

SOLUTION: A supporting article for an image recording material comprises a pigment layer containing a white pigment and a fluorescent brightening agent layer containing a fluorescent brightening agent in this order on a substrate, and an image recording material is prepared from the supporting article.
