A plotting unit (1) generates an image signal and superimposes a display adjustment signal for adjusting the pixel display timing on the part of the image signal corresponding to an area outside the display screen at the horizontal scan line. A display sample unit (3a) samples the image signal at a predetermined sampling timing. A display control unit (4) performs display control of the pixel with the value sampled by the display sample unit (3a). A detection sample unit (6) samples the display adjustment signal at a predetermined sampling timing. According to the value sampled by the detection sample unit (6), a control unit (7) modifies the sampling timing of the detection sample unit (6) until an optimal display timing of the pixel is obtained. After detecting the optimal display timing, the control unit (7) adjusts the sampling timing of the display sample unit (3a) so as to be set to the optimal display timing.
