The reflection characteristic of the reflector is varied in accordance with the distance from the central portion of the display region of the reflection surface, the intensity of the light which is incident to the reflector and reflected on the reflection surface is to be uniform in the range of the ± expected angle theta, and the expected angle theta satisfies the relationship expressed by the following formula (1) <?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?>theta(degree)=tan<SUP>-1</SUP>(H/2 L) (1) <?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?> (In the equation, theta is the expected angle, H is the dimension of the vertical direction of the display region and is in the range of 2 cm to 30 cm, and L is the distance from the center of the display region to the observing point and is in the range of 10 cm to 300 cm). A liquid crystal display device has a reflector attached in the inner side or outer side of a liquid crystal cell.
