PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device, capable of preventing an image defect caused by toner offset and maintaining a high-quality (high-gloss) image as a fixing device 9 where a plurality of fixing units H1 and H2 having a fixing member 71 for fixing an image, while coming into contact with recording material P carrying an unfixed image T1 are arranged in a recording material carrying direction and the image is fixed by making the recording material P successively pass through the plurality of fixing units H1 and H2. SOLUTION: In the fixing device, ability for cleaning the fixing member 71 in individual fixing units H1 and H2 is set so that the cleaning ability of the fixing unit H1 on the farthest upstream side in the recording material carrying direction is higher than that of the fixing unit H2 on the downstream side.
