Producing synthesis gas comprises subjecting a carbonaceous feed to rapid pyrolysis to produce pyrolysis condensate and porous pyrolysis coke particles with an open porosity above 50%, adding the coke to the condensate and mixing until sedimentation density is reached or exceeded, comminuting the mixture and gasifying the mixture with oxygen in a pressurized entrained bed gasifier.
