PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display element having a large pretilt angle and excellent stability of the angle by incorporating a polyamide having a specified chemical structure as a resin component. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal orienting agent contains a polyamide having a chemical structure expressed by the formula as a resin component. In the formula, (n) is a natural number from 1 to 10, R1 and R2 are groups selected from among methyl group, ethyl group and phenyl group, and may be the same as or different from each other. The polyamide having the structure of the formula shows good orienting property for the liquid crystal and gives a large pretilt angle. Other diamines may be used as the raw material in such a degree that does not decrease the effect. As for the solvent component of the liquid crystal orienting agent, for example, a mixture solvent of N-methyl-2-pyrolidone and butylcellusolve can be used. Moreover, to improve the adhesion property with the substrate, a minute amt. of a silane coupling agent and titanium-based coupling agent may be added. |
