PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter apparatus having a structure wherein a large number of filters are connected by a header pipe, capable of allowing backwashing pressure to uniformly act on a large number of the filters and capable of obtaining a sufficient washing effect at the time of backwashing of the filters. SOLUTION: The filter apparatus 50 has a structure wherein a large number of the filters 52, each of which comprises a filter elements, are provided and a casing, filter strings 82, each of which is constituted so that a plurality of filters 52 are parallelly connected by a header pipe 58 composed of a raw liquid supply header pipe 60, a filtrate recovery header pipe 62, a raw liquid recovery header pipe 64 and the like, are constituted and at least two rows of the filter strings 82 are further parallelly connected by filtrate recovering gathering pipe 82.
