A transmitting wireless communication terminal (300) capable of communication with a second communication terminal on an unsynchronised communication system employing a number of frequency resources. The wireless communication terminal comprises a synchronisation mechanism to synchronise its timing to an existing call on a first frequency resource and a transmitter (320) for transmitting on the first frequency resource. A signal processor (308), coupled to the transmitter is arranged to transmit one or more messages in unused time slot(s) within the existing call on the first frequency resource, where the one or more messages do not relate to the existing call. A receiving communication terminal, an unsynchronised communication system, a communication protocol, a wireless message and a method of utilising a plurality of frequency resources are also provided. A more optimum use of a limited radio frequency (and time) resource may be achieved by utilising unused slots of an existing call, particularly in a direct mode operational procedure. |
