PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device in which operability of a user is improved, by determining whether a mounted optical disk is a CD or a DVD, or recordable, without starting an application of a personal computer for confirmation, and by simply displaying the remaining amount for recording, by an optical disk device alone. SOLUTION: The device includes an analog signal processing part 8 for recognizing information on the kind of the mounted optical disk 1 and display parts 12 and 13 for displaying the recognized kind of the optical disk 1 and the remaining amount for recording, wherein the display parts 12 and 13 have a function for switching the displaying color, according to the kind of the mounted optical disk 1 and the remaining amount for recording, and further includes an amplifier 14 and a speaker 15 for indicating by voice the kind of the mounted optical disk 1 and the remaining amount for recording.
