<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle discrimination method which enables discriminating various vehicles in various environments without depending on such edge features as an edge form, position, size and numbers. <P>SOLUTION: Pixel assembly within pictures such as input images or partial images thereof is regarded as a distribution in a multi-dimensional space which consists of 2-dimensional image coordinate axis and a feature axis. Multi-dimensional mixed normal distribution parameter applicable to the distribution is presumed, and existence of vehicles is decided based on the multi-dimensional mixed normal distribution parameter. The multi-dimensional mixed normal distribution parameter is transformed into a 2-dimensional mixed normal distribution parameter, and the existence of vehicles is decided based on the 2-dimensional mixed normal distribution parameter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
