PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably maintain performance for removing residual toner in an image forming apparatus of a type, in which melted toner on an intermediate transfer body is transferred to a recording material. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus of a system, where a toner image formed on an image carrier 1, is transferred to the intermediate transfer body 2 and the toner image on the transfer body 2 is heated, melted and transferred to recording material 3, is equipped with a cleaning means 4, having a cleaning member 5 coming into contact with the transfer body 2, and removing the residual toner on the transfer body 2 by using the cleaning member 5; and a residual toner temperature setting means 6 setting the surface temperature of the residual toner to be equal to or under the glass transition point temperature (Tg) of the toner at least at the contact part thereof with the cleaning member 5.
