PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which is capable performs photographing while giving precedence to photographing time or an image quality in a scene desired by a user while capturing a moving image. SOLUTION: An extension mode is provided separately from an ordinary photographing mode and if the extension mode is set by operating an extension mode key included in a key input section while a moving image is captured, a control section 32 extends a photographing time by making a current recording rate lower than that in the ordinary photographing mode and recording moving image data in a memory 38.
