PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance, convenient-to-carry, and compact zoom lens with which high resolution is ensured and various aberrations in addition to a distortion aberration are satisfactorily corrected and to provide a camera that uses the zoom lens. SOLUTION: The zoom lens comprises, in order from an object side, the first lens group and the second lens group. The first lens group is composed of the first lens that is a lens having a negative refracting power (hereinafter referred to as a negative lens) and the second lens that is a lens having a positive refracting power (hereinafter referred to as a positive lens). The second lens group is composed of the second a-lens group and the second b-lens group which have a positive refracting power as a whole. The second a-lens group is composed of only the third lens that is a positive lens. The second b-lens group is composed of the fourth lens, the fifth lens, and the sixth lens joined together such that at least one of the three lenses is a positive lens and at least another one a negative lens.
