The inventive device for clarifying and decanting a material suspension in a liquid contained in an envelop (119) which is vertically oriented and embodied in a form of a downward convergent cone. Said envelop comprises an area of initial clarified liquids (121) arranged on the top part thereof and connected to a spillway (114), a separating area disposed on the lower part containing a thickening area (103) provided with a second orifice (115) for sludge removal, an area for secondary clarified liquids (125) disposed above the separation area and a compacted part which is coaxially submerged in an intermediate area and provided with a supply conduit (101) penetrating into a separation chamber (105) through a connecting orifice (123), a clarification chamber (112) disposed above a separation wall (127) and a system for injecting the suspension into the clarification chamber (112). The compacted part comprises injectors (111) for reducing the suspension speed without a turbulent diffusion by the injection system in the lower part of the clarification chamber (112) and upstream communications stacks (116) between the areas for primary and secondary clarified liquids (125).
