The conical or truncated conical roller (1), designed to deliver a welding wire with a radius of no more than 1 mm, has an annular groove (2) in its lateral surface. The groove has a V-shaped cross-section with straight sloping sides at an angle of at least 90 degrees to one another, and a curved base with radius smaller than that of the wire. The radius of the curved base is in a ratio of 0.99, and preferably 0.85 : 1 in relation to the radius of the welding wire. The wire feed can have two or four rollers, with each drive roller having an associated pressure roller.
