The bottle filling method involves a filling height (F1) which lies within a specified range below the desired filling height. Additionally in at least one refilling step, with material stable in the container (2) and with the liquid valve (25) closed, the filling height of this container moving past is measured at a measuring position. The measurement is carried out by a fixed sensor unit which does not move with the rotor. The deviation of the filling height from a specified filling height, pref. the desired filling height is taken account of. The liquid valve is opened in such a manner, for at least one refilling, so that finally the filling height corresp. to the desired filling height is reached.
