PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for designing a pressure-resisting plug in an underground type storage tank preventing the damage of a membrane resulting from the relative displacement of a plug boundary section by the internal pressure of a storage and being capable of designing the storage tank having a high airtightness. SOLUTION: In the method for designing the pressure-resisting plug in the underground type storage tank, the pressure-resisting plug 4 separating the underground type storage tank 2 installed in a baserock 1 and an access tunnel 3 for an accessing to the storage tank 2 is designed. In the method, the storage tank 2 is formed in a spherical shape while the pressure-resisting plug 4 is formed in a truncated cone shape that a front end section 41 closes the opening section of the storage tank 2 while using the center of the storage tank 2 as an apex. In the method, the internal pressure of the storage tank 2 is represented by P, the radius of the storage tank 2 by (a), a safety factor by F<SB>s</SB>and the tensile strength of the baserock 1 byρ<SB>tk</SB>, the length L of the plug is calculated by formula (1), L≥(F<SB>s</SB>Pa<SP>3</SP>/2ρ<SB>tk</SB>)<SP>1/3</SP>-a and the plug 4 is designed on the basis of the calculated value.
