PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a terminal and a data transmission method with improved for throughput of data transmission in a dynamic band assignment system. SOLUTION: A buffer 22 temporarily stores up-link data from a computer 20-1. A buffer amount monitor 28 monitors the data amount stored in the buffer 22. Upon receiving a grant signal from an OLT 10, a CPU 26 determines the data amount which can be transmitted within the range of a bandwidth specified by that grant signal, and a data amount prediction circuit 26 predicts the data amount being transmitted to next grant signal. A command-generating circuit 32 generates a command for requesting a transmission bandwidth, corresponding to the predicted data amount.
