PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL device wherein electron injection efficiency from an electron injection electrode to an organic luminescent layer is fully improved, and which has excellent light emitting efficiency. SOLUTION: This organic EL device is provided with the organic luminescent layer 10 between a hole injection electrode 1 and the electron injection electrode 2 facing each other, a first inorganic layer 12 containing transition metal oxide formed on a surface on the side of the electron injection electrode 2 of the organic luminescent layer 10, and a second inorganic layer 14 containing an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal formed on a surface on the side of the electron injection electrode 2 of the first inorganic layer 12.
