PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a back rest of a forklift capable of preventing shake and collapse of cargo by eliminating clearance between the cargo and a back rest, even when a horizontal piece of a fork is deflected downwardly by the cargo. SOLUTION: The fork 51 for loading the cargo W of constant load is supported by finger bars 52 having a vertical clearance, the right and left ends of the upper and lower finger bars are interconnected by a longeron 53, and the back rest 6 of the forklift is disposed upward from the longeron. The front surface 6a of the back rest is tilted forward from the front surface 51a' of the perpendicular piece of the fork by a deflection angleθgenerated by loading the cargo on the horizontal piece 51b of the fork, and the crossing angleαbetween the horizontal piece 51b' and the front surface 6a of the back rest in loading of the cargo is set orthogonally.
